Validating Homeopathy Through the MD Anderson Breast Cancer Study (Q&A)

This webinar discusses the paper published in the February 2010 International Journal of Oncology, entitled, "Cytotoxic effects of ultra-diluted remedies on breast cancer cells" This study showed that four homeopathic remedies were demonstrated to induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in breast cancer cell lines in the lab. This study, completed at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, is a ground-breaking study that not only identified the effect of the homeopathics but the potential mechanisms of action in one of the most thorough and interesting studies ever done on Homeopathics. The study is significant and covers almost 9 pages of analysis, graphs, and mechanism of actions of the homeopathics. For example, here is a quote from the study:

The remedies (the homeopathics) exerted preferential cytotoxic effects against the two breast cancer cell lines, causing cell cycle delay/arrest and apoptosis. These effects were accompanied by altered expression of the cell cycle regulatory proteins, including downregulation of phosphorylated Rb and upregulation of the CDK inhibitor p27, which were likely responsible for the cell cycle delay/arrest as well as induction of the apoptotic cascade that manifested in the activation of caspase 7 and cleavage of PARP in the treated cells.

We constantly talk about the power of homeopathics to upregulate and downregulate which the researchers concluded was the primary mechanism of action. This not only solidifies the potential action, but creates a powerful principle that can be applied to almost any bodily function as you work with patients.

Although there are a tremendous number of interesting data in this study, we'll provide just one more quote:

Interestingly, the cytotoxic effects of two of the remedies investigated in this study, carcinosin and Phytolacca, appear similar to the activity of .12uM of paclitaxel (Taxol), the most commonly used chemotherapeutic drug for breast cancer, when it was tested in the two adenocarcinoma cell lines investigated in this study in parallel experiments.

Yes, they tested the leading Chemotherapeutic agent against the homeopathics and noted the effects were similar.
